The Prize is awarded to the main authors of execellent scientific works that were conducted in Vietnam and published on prestigious international scientific journals. It has been contributing to the promotion of basic scientific research in particular and of Vietnam’s science and technology in general toward reaching international standards, creating base for the integration and development of the country’s science and technology.

The Regulations of Ta Quang Buu Prize are issued together with Circular No. 01/2015/TT-BKHCN dated January 12, 2015, amended and supplemented by Circular No. 18/2023/TT-BKHCN dated August 15, 2023. Accordingly, the Prize is awarded to scientists in all fields of natural sciences and engineering, including Natural Sciences (Mathematics, Information and Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Biology, other Natural Sciences), Engineering and Technology, Pharmacy and Medical Sciences, and Agricultural Sciences. The Prize structure includes no more than three Main Prizes and one Young Prize for young scientist (under 35 years old) who are the main authors of excellent scientific articles.

Annually, excellent scientific articles are nominated by scientists and S&T organizations for the Prize. These applications will be assessed by the Scientific Committees of each field and then by the Prize Committee (including the Presidents of all Scientific Committees and other reputable international experts such as: Prof. Dr. Pierre Darriulat, Prof. Dr. Ngo Bao Chau, Prof. Dr. Trinh Xuan Thuan, Prof. Dr. Vu Ha Van, Assoc.Prof. Dr. Doan An Hai, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thuc Quyen). The Prize Committee will evaluate and nominate the most excellent work for the Prize based on reviews of the Scientific Committees and international peer reviewers.
