The 2013 Ta Quang Buu Prize

On October 30th 2013, the Ministry of Science and Technology held a press conference on introducing the Ta Quang Buu Prize in 2013. Attending the press conference, there were Mr. Tran Viet Thanh, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, President of the Prize Committee; Mr. Do Tien Dzung, Director of National Foundation for Science and Technology Development – Standing Office of the Prize with the members of the Prize Committee. There were many prestigious scientists from Institutes, Universities, Research agencies, and a numerous press and media agencies in the field of science and technology (Vietnam Television, Hanoi Television, Science and Life Newspaper, Propaganda Magazine, People’s Newspaper, Vietnam Government Portal, Vietnam Science and Technology Magazine, Vietnam News Agency, VOV TV, Dan Tri, Tia Sang Magazine, VN Media, Tuoi Tre Newspaper, …) have also attended.

  1. Purpose and meaning

The Ta Quang Buu Prize is a prize presented by Ministry of Science and Technology to Vietnamese scientists who are the authors of outstanding basic research publications in the field of natural sciences and engineering and to Vietnamese scientists working abroad, Foreign scientists in Vietnam who have contributed positively to basic research in Vietnam.

The Ta Quang Buu Prize is annually evaluated and awarded, in general to encourage and honor outstanding scientists with excellent achievements in basic research in the fields of natural science and engineering. And in particular to promote Vietnam science and technology and basic research so as to reach international standards; as a premise for Vietnam science and technology integration and development.

  1. Fields of the Ta Quang Buu Prize

The Ta Quang Buu Prize is evaluated and awarded for basic research publications in the fields of natural sciences and engineering: Mathematics, Information and Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Biology, other Natural Sciences.

  1. Nominees for Ta Quang Buu Prize

– The scientist shall be a Vietnamese citizen and the main author of outstanding scientific work published in specialized scientific journals.

– Vietnamese scientists working abroad, or foreign scientists in Vietnam have contributed positively to basic research in Vietnam.

  1. Prize structure

The structure of the Prize includes from one (01) to three (03) Main Prizes and one (01) Young Scientist Prize (under 35 years old, by the end of the submission) who is the main author of outstanding scientific work; and one (01) prize for a scientist who has contributed positively to basic research in Vietnam.

  1. Value and form of the Prize

Each prize consists of:

– Certificate of Prize by Minister of Science and Technology;

– Prize money (minimum): 200 million for Main prize; 50 million VND for Young scientist prize; 100 million VND for The prize that present to scientist who has contributed positively to basic research in Vietnam.

  1. Time frame of evaluating and presenting the Prize

– Submit application for registration of the Ta Quang Buu Prize to Standing office of the Prize: from October 30th 2013 to the end of January 20th   2014.

– Prize selection: from January 20th 2014 to March 30th 2014.

– Prize ceremony: May 2014

  1. Application for registration of the Ta Quang Buu Prize

– Registration form for participate in the Ta Quang Buu Prize (Form TQB01);

– Full version of published scientific work;

– Description of the scientific work;

– Scientific Curriculum Vitae;

– A copy of the Certificate of registration for results of performance of science and technology projects (in case a scientific work is a result of a science and technology project that uses or receives financial support from the government budget);

– Other relevant documents (if any): The documents shall be required in the evaluation process of the Prize organization committee.

– The Prize organization committee may request the applications that were proposed by the Scientific specialized committees for additional information and confirmation from, and they will be submitted to the organization committee for further consideration.
