The 2019 Ta Quang Buu Prize was launched in November 2018 by Ministry of Science and Technology. After nearly two months of receiving applications, National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (NAFOSTED) – Standing Office of the Ta Quang Buu Prize – received 45 applications for the Prize. This year, the applications were in all fields of natural sciences and engineering. There were 11 applications nominated by science and technology organizations and individuals, and 34 self-nominated applications. In January 2019, Scientific specialized committees of NAFOSTED held a meeting to review all of applications. They are evaluated based on the Ta Quang Buu Prize Regulation as in Circular No. 01/2015/TT-BKHCN dated on January 12th 2015 by the Ministry of Science and Technology. After the meeting, there were 8 applications get selected by Scientific specialized committees for the further consideration of the Prize organization committee. They were 6 nominees for the main authors of the excellent scientific works (Main prize) and 2 nominees for young authors (under 35 years old) of excellent scientific works (Young scientist prize). This year, nominees for the Prize are in the field of Mathematics, Physics, Earth and Environment Sciences, Mechanics, Life Sciences – Pharmacy and Medical. Currently, NAFOSTED is asking for the opinions of international peer reviewers on 8 nominations proposed by Scientific specialized committees. The Prize organization committee will meet to review 8 nominations in April 2019. The Prize ceremony is expected to be held on the 60th anniversary of Vietnam Science and Technology Day.
