For the first time, the Ministry of Science and Technology hosted the Ta Quang Buu Prize Ceremony to honor scientists in basic research. This year’s Prize was resented to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Viet Hung and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ba An, two scientists who have excellent basic research works in the field of Mathematics and Physics.
On the occasion of announcing the Vietnam Science and Technology Day on May 18th, in the morning of May 17th 2014, the Ministry of Science and Technology held the 2013 Ta Quang Buu Prize Ceremony for excellent basic research works in the field of natural sciences and engineering. This is the first year the Ta Quang Buu Prize was presented by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The 2013 Ta Quang Buu Prize was awarded to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Viet Hung, Department of Mathematics, Natural University, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, in the field of Mathematics with scientific work “The homomorphism between the Dickson – Mùi algebras as modules over the Steen rod algebra”; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ba An, Institute of Physics, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, is in the field of Physics with scientific work is “Joint remote state preparation via W and W – type states”.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan congratulated two the prize winners Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Viet Hung and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ba An for winning the Ta Quang Buu Prize for the first time, and affirmed the important role of basic science in the development of national.Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Viet Hung is currently working at the Department of Mathematics and Informatics, Hanoi University of Science and Vice President of Vietnam Mathematical Association. Meanwhile, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ba An is currently working at the Institute of Physics, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. He is one of the world’s leading scientists in the field of quantum optics and quantum information. Both scientists are members of the Scientific specialized committeel of NAFOSTED.
Minister Nguyen Quan affirmed that Vietnam science and technology are facing great challenges. It is still difficult to bring the State’s policies on science and technology into life, in which the biggest barrier is how to change old mindset, especially the opinions of science and technology managers. Minister Nguyen Quan also hoped that the Ta Quang Buu Prize would gain more and more prestigious and spread widely among the Vietnamese scientific community; encourage the team of science and technology intellectuals nationwide to promote their creative capacity and passion for research; and attract the attention of leading scientists, talented young researchers with outstanding research..
After the Prize ceremony, two award-winning scientists were invited to participate in the “Dialogue with Scientists” program with Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam and Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan on current issues taking place now on basic scientific research and the current scientific research environment of scientists; about young research groups going through advantages, disadvantages and challenges. The two scientists also shared touching stories about their experiences in doing science.

| The Ta Quang Buu Prize is a prize presented by Ministry of Science and Technology to Vietnamese scientists who are the authors of outstanding basic research publications in the field of natural science and engineering and to Vietnamese scientists working abroad, Foreign scientists in Vietnam who have contributed positively to basic research in Vietnam.
The Ta Quang Buu Prize is annually evaluated and awarded, in general to encourage and honor outstanding scientists with excellent achievements in basic research in the fields of natural science and engineering: Mathematics, Information and Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Biology, Engineering and technology sciences, Pharmacy and Medical sciences, Agricultural sciences and other Natural Sciences. The structure of the Prize includes from one (01) to three (03) Main Prizes and one (01) Young Scientist Prize (under 35 years old, by the end of the submission) who is the main author of outstanding scientific work; and one (01) prize for a scientist who has contributed positively to basic research in Vietnam. Each Prize will consist of Certificate of Prize by Minister of Science and Technology; and Prize money valuates 200 million for Main prize; 50 million VND for Young scientist prize; 100 million VND for The prize that present to scientist who has contributed positively to basic research in Vietnam. |
